Energy efficiency for the industries of Sweden

Energy efficiency is one of the most important questions for industries in contributing to a sustainable future. By using energy more efficiently, industries can reduce costs, improve productivity, and contribute to a decrease in global carbon dioxide emissions. Sometimes it can be challenging to know where to start, so here are four tips on how your industry can become more energy-efficient in its operations.

1. Reduce peak loads

Peak demand refers to the high levels of electrical power used at a specific time. Peak demand can increase electricity costs because utility companies often charge for the highest amount of energy used during a particular period. By reducing peak demand in the industry, we can save money.

Peak demand occurs when we simultaneously use machines that consume a lot of power, such as an oven, laser, or air conditioning. The increased energy demand can lead to higher costs for utility companies and impact the power grid. To reduce peak demand and improve energy efficiency, we can utilize energy-saving techniques such as load segregation (separating electricity usage into different parts of the day) and time scheduling (setting machines to turn on or off when not in use).  

By understanding peak demand and implementing strategies to reduce it, we can contribute to a more sustainable future with lower energy and electricity costs.

2. Turn off your machines

It may seem like a mundane thing to consider, but when machines are left unused and still powered on, they continue to consume energy, even if not in use. This leads to unnecessary energy consumption and higher electricity costs. By turning off machines when they are not in use, you can save energy and money. You can also reduce the load on the power grid and contribute to a more sustainable energy usage. 

Självklart behöver vissa maskiner och processer vara påslagna och i drift hela tiden, men för de maskiner som inte behöver det, stäng av dem när de inte används. Det kan också vara värt att överväga att använda tidsstyrning och sensorer för att automatiskt stänga av maskiner när de inte används. Så ja, att stänga av maskiner i produktion när de inte används är en enkel och effektiv metod för att spara  energi och bidra till en mer hållbar energianvändning.

3. Review default settings on your machines

Check your machines. Often, they are set at higher settings than necessary, resulting in unnecessary energy consumption. A good example is ventilation, which can often be adjusted downward. One of our customers saved 200,000 kWh/year just by examining how their ventilation system operated. Keeping an eye on your machines to ensure they are functioning as intended and not producing energy unnecessarily is a simple step to save energy. 

4. Energy monitoring
